Characteristic features :
Habit : Liana or large woody dioecious climber with jointed branches at the nodes.
Leaves : Leaves are ovate, oblong or elliptic in shape and are arranged in opposite manner.
Inflorescence : spicate, axillary with many superposed cupular connate bracts called collars, each collar containing unisexual sessile flowers.
Seeds : Seed is solitary, ellipsoid and hard, endospermous enclosed with three envelopes forming a pseudo-fruit, reddish orange when ripened.
Flowering and Fruiting time : December to June
Significance : IUCN Red listed: Ancient Endangered Climber
